Your home, properly planned

Kitchens for the way you live

A kitchen shaped around everyday tasks

A kitchen renovation can address cramped preparation space, awkward storage, worn surfaces or a layout that separates the person cooking from the rest of the household. Start with what does not work: where deliveries are put down, how dishes move from sink to storage and whether two people can use the room together. Those observations make a more useful brief than selecting cabinets before checking how the space functions.

Matt and his team provide complete kitchen renovations and installations, working with specialist kitchen designers. The service can suit a refresh within an existing room or a larger project involving an extension or structural alteration. A free site visit lets you discuss the space, intended appliances and wider building work. The design and construction scope should be coordinated so the fitted kitchen is not planned independently of walls, floors and services.

Bring design and installation together

Cabinet dimensions affect socket positions, plumbing, extraction routes and the order of work. Worktops, splashbacks and floor levels must also fit the final arrangement. Professional coordination helps resolve these interfaces before delivery and installation. Matt and his team manage the agreed project end-to-end, including specialist trades and any relevant building control inspections and sign-offs. The aim is a working room at handover, not a collection of attractive products that still need incompatible details resolved.

Before the work begins

The problems worth resolving early

Avoid ordering around measurements that may change

Ordering a fitted kitchen before wall changes and floor build-ups are settled can leave cabinets, tall units or an island in the wrong position. An appliance door may obstruct circulation, and a worktop can be difficult to alter once made. Establish the sequence for final measurements and any template-dependent items. Check who supplies each product and how delivery, storage and installation are coordinated before committing to orders.

Ignoring ventilation or assuming existing wiring will accommodate new appliances can create avoidable problems. Plumbing routes, shut-off access and electrical requirements should be assessed by appropriate specialist trades. If opening up the room involves a wall removal, structural design and support need attention before demolition. Decorative choices do not resolve those requirements, and a kitchen project involving building changes may have obligations beyond fitting new cupboards.

From survey to handover

Our approach to your kitchens project

01 · Free site visit and a practical brief

Discuss your aims with Matt and arrange a free, no-obligation site visit. The visit is used to understand the existing space, the work you are considering and the decisions that may need further investigation. It is not a promise that concealed conditions or every approval requirement can be settled immediately.

Bring a list of storage problems, room measurements or drawings if available, and the appliances you intend to keep or replace. Tell Matt about structural changes, your design preferences and an outline budget. Discuss temporary cooking arrangements and any access restrictions for large deliveries.

02 · Assessment, design and an agreed scope

Establish the design information and specialist input required for your particular project before final construction decisions. Clarify any approval responsibilities, product supply and the work included in the quotation. Compare proposed options against your priorities and budget. If an item remains undecided, identify it clearly rather than assuming it is covered by a broad description of the service.

03 · Schedule, deposit and milestone payments

A schedule of works is issued with a payment plan, including an initial deposit and stage payments linked to the agreed work. Discuss access, deliveries, product decisions and essential facilities before the start. Where a change is needed, agree its effect on the scope, cost and programme before proceeding, so the shared plan remains clear.

04 · Managed construction and relevant checks

Matt and his team manage the agreed project from start to finish, coordinating specialist trades and building control inspections and sign-offs. The particular checks depend on the works and relevant requirements. Preparation, installation and verification should follow the agreed design and product specifications; important concealed details should be addressed at the appropriate stage rather than left until decoration is complete.

05 · Completion, handover and workmanship guarantee

Review the completed work against the agreed scope and discuss any points that require attention. Retain relevant product care information, certificates and inspection documentation applicable to the project. The build carries a 12-month workmanship guarantee, including certified specialist trade work. Ask about routine maintenance and how to raise a workmanship concern so the next step is clear after the team leaves.

Practical outcomes

What a considered project gives you

Storage where you actually need it

Planning drawers, cupboards and work surfaces around normal tasks reduces unnecessary movement. Place everyday items within comfortable reach and allow practical space beside appliances. Useful storage is not just maximum cupboard count: corners, high shelves and narrow gaps need to be assessed against what you will keep there and how easily you can access it.

A coordinated sequence of specialist work

An agreed plan gives plumbing, electrical preparation, flooring and cabinetry a workable order. That reduces the risk of making new openings in finished surfaces because an appliance or extraction route was overlooked. Matt works with specialist kitchen designers and coordinates the agreed installation, helping connect the room layout with the construction work needed to achieve it.

Materials selected for your routine

A busy household, an occasional cook and someone who bakes daily may need different storage and surface choices. Discuss cleaning, heat exposure and care requirements as well as appearance. Matt's agreed work carries a 12-month workmanship guarantee, including certified specialist trade work; individual product instructions still matter for protecting finishes and using appliances correctly.

Materials, methods & decisions

Planning the details of your kitchens

Layout changes and kitchen extensions

A galley, an L-shaped room and an open-plan kitchen each have different circulation needs. An island is only useful if the surrounding routes remain workable when cupboard and appliance doors are open. Test where stools, dining chairs and people passing through the room will sit within the plan. A designer can help translate those requirements into a layout rather than adding an island simply because it appears in a reference photograph.

If the kitchen forms part of an extension, agree windows, doors, structural openings and services with the room design. A large glazed wall may reduce usable cabinet space, while a beam or column can affect the island position. Structural alterations and whole-home renovation work should be considered alongside the kitchen scope so construction and installation decisions follow a single brief.

Cabinetry, worktops and floor finishes

Cabinet construction, door finishes and hardware affect storage, cleaning and appearance. Worktop options can include laminate, timber, engineered surfaces or stone, each with different handling, installation and care requirements. Discuss which surfaces suit your kitchen with the design team. Ask about heat resistance, sealing where applicable, edge profiles and access for delivery before choosing on looks alone.

Floor selection should account for moisture, cleaning, wear and the finished height at adjoining rooms. Some flooring needs a particular preparation or sequence around cabinets, so establish this before work starts. Splashbacks, wall finishes and under-cabinet lighting should be coordinated with socket and appliance positions. Product compatibility and manufacturer instructions matter at the interfaces, especially around sinks, joints and areas exposed to heat or water.

Appliances, extraction and temporary disruption

Provide appliance specifications early enough for power, plumbing, ventilation and cabinet dimensions to be checked. Gas and electrical work must be handled by appropriately qualified specialists where required; a new kitchen does not justify DIY changes to those systems. Discuss how long essential cooking and washing facilities may be unavailable, where deliveries can be stored and what access the team needs. Practical arrangements during the renovation are part of a realistic programme, not an afterthought once the old kitchen has been removed.

Questions before you start

How much do kitchens cost in Epsom?

Room size, cabinet specification, worktops, appliances, plumbing or electrical changes, floor preparation and any structural alterations affect cost. Clarify product supply and installation separately so the quotation does not leave you guessing which appliances, finishes or design work are included. We do not publish a fixed price for an unseen property. Start with a free, no-obligation site visit and quotation so the proposed work, inclusions and outstanding decisions are clear before you commit.

How long will my kitchens project take?

Design decisions, cabinet production, appliance deliveries and worktop measuring or fabrication can influence the schedule. Structural changes and first-fix services must be sequenced before final installation. Availability of an existing kitchen during the work also needs discussion. Matt and his team issue a schedule of works for the agreed project. Discuss your preferred dates and any essential deadlines, but do not rely on a generic duration before the design, scope and relevant dependencies have been established.

What should I prepare for the free site visit?

Bring a list of storage problems, room measurements or drawings if available, and the appliances you intend to keep or replace. Tell Matt about structural changes, your design preferences and an outline budget. Discuss temporary cooking arrangements and any access restrictions for large deliveries. The visit and quotation are free and carry no obligation to proceed. If you already have a designer or another professional involved, mention that so the available information and next decisions can be discussed together.

Will I need planning permission or building control?

Requirements depend on your property, the proposed works and any applicable site constraints. Planning permission and building regulations are separate matters; one does not replace the other. Check the route for your particular scheme with the relevant authority and advisers. Matt and his team coordinate building control inspections and sign-offs as part of managing the agreed project.

Who manages the work and specialist trades?

Matt and his team manage the project from start to finish, coordinating the agreed construction and specialist trades. Kitchen and bathroom projects involve specialist designers. Clarify the scope and any separate professional appointments before work starts, so responsibility for design, supply, installation and relevant approvals is understood rather than assumed.

What guarantee is included, and are you insured?

Matt Brash Builders Ltd is fully insured. The build carries a 12-month workmanship guarantee, including work completed by certified specialist trades. This is a workmanship commitment, not an unlimited product lifespan or a substitute for routine maintenance. Retain your project information and ask Matt how to raise a concern about the completed work.

How long should the results of kitchens last?

Cabinet construction, worktop material, installation and daily care influence how the kitchen ages. Protect surfaces from use they are not designed for and follow appliance instructions. Hinges, seals and finishes may need attention at different times; there is no single guaranteed lifespan for the whole room. Discuss the selected materials and care requirements during the project. The useful life of a construction element, fitting or finish depends on its specification, exposure and use, so we do not promise an unsupported number of years for the whole service.

Do you provide emergency or same-day work?

We focus on planned building work rather than emergency call-outs. Our hours are Monday–Friday, 8am–6pm. Call Matt to discuss planned work and current availability. If there is an immediate risk to people or the building, seek the appropriate urgent assistance rather than treating a future site visit as an emergency response.

Do you carry out kitchens outside Epsom?

Matt Brash Builders Ltd is based in Epsom and also covers Ewell, Ashtead, Leatherhead, Chessington, Kingston upon Thames, Sutton, Cobham and Guildford. Discuss the property location and access when you call. The quotation and programme are based on the individual project rather than assuming every home in an area has the same building conditions.

How do I take the next step and agree payments?

Use the online enquiry form or call 07449 907407 to discuss a free site visit. Share your project outline and location so the next step can be discussed. Once the project is agreed, a schedule of works and payment plan sets out the initial deposit and milestone payments linked to the agreed work.
